22 weeks and good-bye 5th month, hello 6th month. I can't believe I'm beginning my 6th month. The bump from now on doesn't have weekly fruit pictures, so this is the 5th month fruit.
BABY
At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas essential for the production of some important hormones is developing steadily.
So for about a week now I've been tossing and turning a lot in bed because my legs get very achy at night. The aches actually wakes me up in the middle of the night. When I toss to the other side it helps but within an hour or so the aches are back. On Saturday morning I woke up with a charlie horse on my right calf. It was really painful. I went through my pregnancy books and read that leg cramps are pretty common but what I was feeling was not really cramps. At my OB's appointment on Wednesday morning I talked to him about this and he told me for me to start taking a calcium supplement everyday with my PNV. So ever since I have been taking the calcium and I all ready see a big improvement. I'm not waking up as much with aches anymore. I think this all has to do with me not eating enough diary products. I knew from the beginning pregnant women have to intake a lot more calcium and I knew that was my challenge. It's so hard for me to eat anything with calcium because I really don't like any diary products. Thank God for calcium supplements.
My appointment went extremely well on Wednesday. I put on a total of 16 lbs in 22 weeks. I couldn't believe that in one month I put on 7 lbs. Crazy!!! I guess your body is going to do what it wants to do. He gave me the names of two pediatricians that he recommends. I need to call them up and interview them. We also talked about childbirth classes and I'm all booked for that too. They start on July 22 and go for 5 weeks. I also signed up for a special breastfeeding class which is on July 8. I can't believe I'm all ready booked for my classes. I see my OB in 4 weeks and than after that I start seeing him every 2 weeks again. Next time I go I'll be doing my wonderful glucose test. From now until I deliver, I have an ultrasound done every month to see how the little guy is doing. I'm also starting my once a week trip to Labor & Delivery at the hospital. My first trip is on Monday. There, they will hook me up to fetal monitors to see how my little boy is doing. So that will be every week until he arrives. Other than that, it was another great appointment with my OB.
This weekend we are making our final selection on the furniture so we can order it. I know I say this often, but I really can't believe how fast time is flying. I feel like I still have so much to do, including the whole nursery.
So here is my weekly survey...
Weekly Survey
How far along? 22 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: Gained 16 lbs
How much does baby weigh: About 1 lb now
Maternity clothes? I'm still only wearing maternity pants. All of my pre-pregnancy shirts still fit me. I think sooner or later I will have to by maternity shirts, but for now I still enjoy wearing my pre-pregnancy ones.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Lately the leg aches have kept me up but the calcium supplement seems to be working. The past two nights I've slept okay and not waking up with the aches in my legs
Best moment this week: Having a great OB appointment and booking my child birth classes
Movement:Yes I feel those butterfly flutters everyday now. No kicks yet though!!!
Food cravings: Cheetos.
Gender: boy
Labor Signs: No and hopefully not for a very long time
Belly Button in or out? In
What I miss: I'm definitely missing the 80 degree weather we had last weekend. What a tease!!!
What I am looking forward to: Monday for my L&D trip and Wednesday another u/s
Weekly Wisdom: Eat as much calcium as you can to hopefully prevent the leg aches and the charlie horse.
Milestones: Booking my monthly u/s, weekly L&D trips, and child birth classes. It really makes it seem like the little boy will be here before I know it.
And here are my Week 22 belly shots. Not much of a difference from last week.
